DEAD AND GONE - God Loves Everyone But You. CD

This is the latest, and long awaited new release (which has now actually been out for several months). I was thrilled to hear about this cause I love Dead And Gone and have since I first got a tape sent to me saying "this is the best thing in the East Bay these days" and that was about 4 years ago now. Their sound has matured and rounded out and while I´m still reminded of Neurosis in their mid-period, I think that Dead And Gone have come unto their own and moved beyond any direct comparisons. Drawing on those influences and that East Bay hardcore sound (which I love) - Dead And Gone have a complex and layered sound with harsh and abrasive grating discordance and power that hits in the heart and vocals that roll along with it all. I´m really looking forward to seeing them later this month with Neurosis and Eyehategod - that will be awesome! - Slug & Lettuce.

DEAD YUPPIES - Gdy swiat to za malo. CD

This band from Wroclaw is around since 4 years so it is high time to release their first "real" record after 2 demo CD-Rs. It is in my opinion one of the most promising polish punk bands. It is catchy, straight forwar punk rock with roots into Polish 80´s punk and some UK influences. Sung in Polish it reminds me alot of melodies of Karcer, vocals and lyrics style by Deuter and energy and anger by Dezerter. If you are familiar with those classic polish 80´s bands. There are 14 tracks of fuzzy guitars and catchy sing along punk songs on this CD.

DOA - 13 Flavours Of Doom. CD

It´s the return of the ignoroids. D.O.A. are back as a three-piece: Joe Kiethley, Brian Goble, and Ken Jensen. Straight-ahead classic D.O.A. punk. Produced by John Nomeansno Wright.

"A surprising comeback is that of Vancouver´s D.O.A., who split up in ´89 with a series of emotional farewell gigs but couldn´t stay dead. Not only that , but the (now) trio goes back to their early ´80s solid punk sound eschewing the more commercial hard rock of their later days: "Too Fuckin´ Heavy" even sounds like a riffing update of Hardcore ´81´s "Fucked Up Baby/Ronnie." Joey "Shithead" Keithley´s distinctive growl always sounded best on top of fast and angry guitars, as it is here on such burners as "I Played the Fool," the AIDS-aware "Use Your Raincoat," and the opening "Already Dead," while the best songs are written and by bassist (former Subhumans vocalist) Brian "Wimpy Roy" Goble, such as the anti-boob tube "The Living Dead" and the closing "Phantom Zone," Both pure, mid-tempo punk at its best, with big guitars and memorable tunes. And kudos for the ozone conscious "Hole in the Sky," a song Al Gore would like if his wife had better taste. A fine welcome back and a return to a better earlier form."
